Goldman Sachs has a basket of stocks with a long track record of beating the market and so far, this year is no exception. While the S & P 500 is on track to finish the year down almost 20%, Goldman's High Sharpe Ratio basket outperformed that. Implied volatility of the median stock in the basket is only slightly higher than that of the median S & P stock (36% vs. 31%). "Our High Sharpe Ratio basket is constructed based on the relative ranking of stocks within each sector." Goldman also added Southwest Airlines and energy stock EQT Corp , both of which have a Sharpe ratio above 1.0.

Stocks rallied this week as earnings season ramped up and is so far off to a better-than-expected start. With 20% of the S & P 500 having reported financials so far, sales results have thus far been 1.4% above expectations while earnings results are 5.4% above expectations, in aggregate. That inverse correlation between bond yields and stocks was powerful enough to trump positive earnings reports. Looking back On the earnings front, we got results from Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Procter & Gamble (PG), and Danaher (DHR). And demand for the greener fuel has dried up, according to Reuters interviews with nine LNG market analysts, industry officials and traders. Several gas drillers, including in the world’s top gas producer the United States, told Reuters they have invested in finding and plugging greenhouse gas emissions associated with production, transport and processing. Since Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine, gas prices have soared about 25% in the United States and 32% in Europe . To export gas, the fuel must be supercooled into LNG and then shipped across the sea, a process that produces substantial additional greenhouse gas emissions. Other U.S. LNG suppliers, like Cove Point LNG and Cameron LNG, also told Reuters they are not certifying their cargoes.
